This intensive 5-day class will be offered to those who have previously completed Recovery Coach/Life Coach I class/training. The prerequisite of taking this class is that you have taken the RCLCI or CCAR (pre-Covid) class with GRaCE. 

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Describe the role of the Recovery Coach Professional and its functions
• List the components of and the importance of SMART goals
• Explain accountability in the Recovery Coach Professional role
• Build skills to coach in crisis situations.
• Describe the importance of appearance as a Recovery Coach Professional
• Explain the importance of reliability
• Apply active listening and motivational interviewing
• Explore ethics and boundaries
• Discover attitudes about stigma in professional settings
• Explain ethical decision making
• Describe principles, morals, and values
• Increase awareness of the importance of etiquette and demeanor
• Explore case studies and ethical considerations in different settings.
• Examine ethical guidelines for the delivery of peer-based recovery support services
• Describe accountability and its importance
• Explain the importance of maintaining poise as an RCP
• Describe advocacy and its importance
• Practice newly acquired skills

Students that complete Recovery Coach/Life Coach I and Advanced Medical Recovery Coach Academy training (including volunteer hours) will receive a Skill Set Certificate from Blue Ridge Community and Technical College certifying the completion of the requirements for the Recovery Coach Professional (RCP) designation. The certificate is endorsed by Greater Recovery and Community Empowerment (GRaCE) and Blue Ridge Community and Technical College.


As more entities (hospitals, providers, and prisons) employ recovery coaches, an RCP signifies a level of competence and expertise. An RCP is proficient in the art and science of recovery coaching through actively listening, asking good questions with motivational interviewing, managing biases, and treating people as resources. These skills are essential in recovery coaching.

Advanced Medical Recovery Coach Academy includes:
•  20 hours of Ethics
• 10 hours of Professionalism
• 10 hours of Crisis (Emergency Department) Recovery Coaching.
+ 55 Clinical/Field work hours required

Upon completion of the course students will receive the following from BRCTC:
• Recovery Coach Professional Designation (RCP) (upon completion of internship hours)
• 3 Third Party College Credits from Blue Ridge Community and Technical College (additional 1 Third Party College Credit from Blue Ridge CTC given upon completion of internship hours)
