The goal of the seminar is to emphasize that understanding the culture of one’s workforce is fundamental to operating a successful business in Appalachian communities—just as cultural understanding is essential in any global or cross-cultural setting. Employers and professionals are more effective when they understand the values, motivations, and lived experiences of Appalachian people. This session will examine what motivates Appalachian workers, what they value, and what they may find challenging in workplace settings, while also offering practical guidance on how to work respectfully within the culture—without stereotypes or judgment.
