Join Chef Miriam Conroy on a culinary adventure exploring Chinese Cuisine and our unique interpretation of American Chinese food. Lunch is on your own Tuesday during the Day 1 shopping trip and Lunch will be provided on Wednesday and Thursday by our Bruin Café staff on the two remaining days.
Day 1: Shopping at H Mart in Frederick, MD. Students will meet Chef Miriam at the store at 10:30 a.m. for ingredient shopping and to tour the store. Take the mystery out of shopping - learn what to purchase, how much, and why - to create Chinese recipes. Purchase and enjoy lunch during a tutorial on the history and characteristics of these fabulous cuisines. Bring a bag and do some shopping of your own. Lunch is on your own Tuesday during the Day 1 shopping trip
Day 2: American Chinese Cuisine – prepare these uniquely American Chinese Classic recipes:
Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon
General Tso’s Chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan, and Beef and Broccoli with Steamed Rice
Demonstration: Fortune Cookies
Lunch will be provided by our Bruin Café staff.
Day 3: Chinese Cuisine – from elegant Cantonese to fiery Szechuan recipes for an authentic culinary experience:
Dim Sum – Sui Mai, Har Gow, and Wor Tip Dumplings with a sweet and savory dipping sauce, Char Sui Bao
Chow Mein Noodles
Mapo Tofu and Fan (Steamed Rice)
` Demonstration: Sesame Balls
Lunch will be provided by our Bruin Café staff.
